Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42)

Jesus visits the home of two sisters, Martha and Mary.  Note, there is no indication that either women, particularly Mary, are the same people in other more famous anecdotes.

Martha is busy doing host preparations while Mary is sitting listening to Jesus.  Martha tells Jesus to tell Mary to get to work.  Jesus responds that Martha is overly worried while Mary has chosen the better option.

In other words, Jesus was telling Martha to come and listen to him.  The text is silent as to what Martha does next.

It is a short anecdote, but it does parallel to a lot of the interactions between Jesus and his male disciples. They continually worry about material provisions while Jesus challenges them to just trust in him.  Sometimes it is successful, sometimes not.
