Jesus returns from across the lake. A crowd is already present to meet him and they swarm. This may have been the same spot where he did the parable of the sower a day or two earlier.
Putting the events together, Jesus did the sower parable plus a few others, left across the lake where he calmed the storm, then landed on the far shore where 2,000 pigs died. Now, Jesus is returning to from where he had left. All this seems to have happened within a few days.
Jarius, leader of the synagogue comes up to him. He begs Jesus to come heal his daughter, who is about twelve years old. We can probably guess that Jarius is a Pharisee, but he is identified in the text as a the leader of the synagogue and not as a Pharisee. Aside from his pr present action, the textual distinction suggests that he has stepped into faith.
Jesus agrees. In the same crowd, a woman who has had a bleeding issue for twelve years comes and touches Jesus' garment through the crowd. Immediately, she is healed. Jesus feels the power leave him and starts asking who touched him. The woman comes forth and Jesus calls her "daughter" and tells her to go in peace.
At around the same time, reports about the child come and the child has died. Jesus arrives at the home and only enters with Peter, James, and John. Here is the first indication of any stand outs among the apostles now that they have been following Jesus for a while. Peter repeatedly stands out among the apostles.
Jesus says that she is just sleeping and those around laugh at him. Jesus finds the girl and tells her - my child, get up.
The Gospel of Mark saves the detail that she was twelve years old until she was being healed. The Gospel of Luke provides the detail while discussing the woman with the who had a bleeding issue of twelve years. It is not not entirely clear if there is any significance to both events involving "twelve years" - child of twelve and a woman who had bled for twelve years. We can presume that this woman's bleeding issue prevented her from having any children at all, if not biologically then probably socially. At the same time, a child is raised from death. The events function at least on a symbolic level, where mother and daughter are rescued.
